On April 20th, 2016 has been finally repealed the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC in favor of the new ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, which entered into force on March 30th, 2014.
Directive 2014/34/EU regulates the equipment intended for use in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres and it’s addressed to manufacturers of equipment for use in these areas. It requires ATEX certification to all products marketed in the European Union, regardless of the place of production and regulations in force in it, if they are installed in hazardous locations. It’s important to stress that this Directive does not introduce any changes to the essential health and safety requirements and no change of the evaluation procedures.
Therefore, in accordance with Art. 41 of the new Directive, the certificates of conformity issued in accordance with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC remain valid as well as products and equipment placed on the market before April, 20th 2016 and comply with the earlier Directives.
